Penang Trip Day 1

This is an out dated post about my Penang trip in the beginning of May this year. Yup, I am a truly and pure Penang "lang' but why did I say that it was a trip? Well cos it was in deed a trip for me cos I never went back to my HOME... Ok I brought someone special back with me to Penang (Em! She is my Buddy ok, and yes my Buddy is a She and not a He, thank you) so I need to be the "lousiest' tour guide you see, ok Mensiasueykan orang Penang only cos I am just hopeless back at my own hometown.

Ok to cut all the crap short... Now, let me bring you through the journey again....(If you think it's boring just stop reading)

We started our journey around 8 something in the morning from KKB. It was a bright Sunny morning and my buddy was sleeping like a pig throughout the journey.... maybe I was boning kua...

Then hor, near to Ipoh hor, there was a traffic jam at the toll plaza.

I was bored ma, so I decided to play with the camera lor since my buddy is sleeping soundly.

Then hor we want to go through the long tunnel......

See on the way in liau......

Yeah! go in liau, My camera skill not bad hor? I am so proud of this photo.... but my buddy is still sleeping....

Then around 1 p.m. we finally reached My precious Pearl of the Orient!!!!!!

Eerrr.... not really la still at the Penang bridge la..... see no traffic jam.... but suddenly I feel so sleepy and my buddy just wake up from her slumber and still very blur....

The moment we reached the Island, we straight away go and check in to the hotel (Red Rock Hotel)
Then hor the moment i see this....

I go and lay and sleep like a pig on it lor and my buddy also follow me la............ but the pillow os so lousy la so thin and too low.... make me snores like a pig only!!!!

After I take a short nap, my buddy still floats in her dream land so I once again feel bored and I took my camera and do my work lor ' clicking here and there lor'

This picture is taken at the window of our room.... opposite Red Rock hotel ( 4 star hotel) there is Paradise Hotel (dunno how many star)

Then I feel bored while waiting for my buddy to wake up so I sat near the dressing table and found this

a letter to those customers who loves to 'buy' souvenirs from hotels...... actually a polite way of saying " if you want to steal any of above items from the room, you are welcome to do so but with a price to pay......'

What???? that lousy, thin pillow, slept by 100 over heads cost RM 35!!!!!!!!!! Wah! Who is so silly to bring that back as a souvenir ah?
After that we went for our light lunch at the food court across the road. Later we walk to the Dr, Sun Yat Sen Memorial not far from the food court. Unfortunately it was close (save our money) so we just take pictures outside lor.

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! Ooooppppssss.......... sorry wrong slogan. Maybe it says ' Hi! Mao Tze Tung, Here we come! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!' kot? I don't know la. That's why la sleeping during history classes during form 6 now anything also do not know.... shame... shame....
After that we actually planned to walk to Khoo Kongsi to take some photos but it begin to drizzle so my Buddy said that she wanna go back to the hotel room, so that was what we did la.
At around 7 p.m. my mom came to the hotel lobby with my "Mak Ee" and "Thiau Pa' . Then we went to Northan Beach Cafe to have our lavish dinner.
This Picture was taken by my buddy.... who is my buddy? You will find out later.

We had this Penang famous Ambra juice... really yummy........

Then we had Tom yam, with lots of cintan noodles and big pieces Yong Tau Foo stuff and some cheesy sausages too! Oh! Gosh, I am hungry now.......

Next come the cuttle fish with kangkong....... yum... yum....

Then my favourite rojak or Malaysia salad with lots of peanuts..........

After a while, my buddy and me were feeling quite full, so we decided to take a break and we went near the beach area to take some pictures.

Nice evening view at Northern Beach Cafe.

Another view taken later.

That is my feeling very full kind of look....
When we went back to the table with a still full stomach, we found this on our table...

fried oyster... not that delicious since we are quite at the maximum already but since my mom had ordered it... why want to waste the food?
After that we have to finish this load of 'lor bak' not my cup of tea but I just love the century egg with ginger.

That is me and my mom.... my Buddy said that we really look alike.... we have big nose la...

After the meal, we went to Esplanade or Padang Kota Lama to have a walk (to tell you the truth, I've never been there for almost 10 years already)

The nicely light up MPPP heritage building. There was a function going on in the morning that's why the tents are still there at that time.

Next to this building is another British colonial building... I am not sure what is that building for but it's a government building too.

And here is my buddy in front of Fort Convallis..... (maybe wrong spelling la)

Yup, she is no other then my Sweet Heart (we went to Pulau Perhentian before, remember?). My mom and uncle said my sweet heart looks like a uni or college students but actually she is my colleague.... I agree with them anyway.

After that we went to watch wayang kulit or shadow play.....

Hehehe! nola of cause. That was just both of us fooling around with the camera at the seaside.

Just look at the traffic jam there, I wonder why so many people are so fond of coming here especially the tourists....

Look at this memorial for the solders and those people who died during the World War II

Spooky hor... and there is an orb on the upper left and a smaller one at the lower right of the memorial Eeeeeeeee.......... scary...... Nah! That's only a speck of dust I guess no Ghosts la.....

Both of us again at the Esplanade....

After taking enough silly photos and feeling tired, we went back to the Hotel as the rain starts to drizzle again.

When we reach the lobby, we starts to take silly photos again.... got camera ma, so use la....

Me and mister potato sponsored by my mom.

Ahem the CEO of the Hotel Miss Doralin Lee.... hehehehe nola just love the antique chair la.

Wesak Day At Mahavihara

As today is consider a Wesak Day in Malaysia and some other countries (but not in Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and some other countries), so Jean and Me decided to go and pay our homage to The Buddha....
In the Church???

Hehehe! Shot plug meh? Of cause not in the Church la. This Church is just a few blocks away from the Buddhist Mahavihara that we are going, so we stop by to take some pictures first lor.

This is not a morning market ok, this is a charity food fair hold by the temple along the way outside the temple ground.

Jean and me decided to buy two flowers and candles from the Tri-Ratana Children Home to offer to Lord Buddha.

The flowers are very beautiful..... I love the purple and pinkish colours.

Me and our flowers before the offering
Look there are so many people queueing up patiently waiting for their turn to go into the main shrine hall to pay homage and placed their offerings to the Lord Buddha.

We are still waiting patiently for our turn to go into the main shrine hall under the hot sun and in the middle of the crowd.

Wow! Just look at the crowd!!!! So many people at the temple Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu! (Well done! Well done! Well done!)

Well at last, it's our turn to go into the main shrine to pay homage and to placed our offering to the Buddha.

The Buddha Image in the main shrine hall.

A Reverend is sprinkling holy water and chanting the Parita (Verses of protection) to bless the devotees.

Wow.... a long queue again?

After our blessing session, we proceed to the next counter to take a small bottle of holy water.

Next, we proceed to the next building which is called something like The International Stupa to pay our respect to the relic of the Buddha and the relics of the Late Chief Rev. Dr. K Sri Dhammananda.

The relics were kept in this glass stupa which is placed in the middle of the building.

Besides the Holy relics, there are lots of Buddha images from different countries and era being display around the small building. It feels like walking into a some kind of Buddhist Art Museum.

Here are some of the Buddha Images being display. I took this pictures with my Nokia 6120 as my camera has already run out of batteries so the photos are not that clear.

Me pay respect to The Lord Buddha.
There are many different types of Buddha images there.

This Image is from India and this posture means protections from the Buddha.

This Image is from Indonesia, It is quite unique cause the Buddha was not sitting cross legged. The hands gesture means The Buddha was giving The First sermon (Dhammacakkapavata Sutta) to the five recluse.

This Image is from India. The posture and hand gesture is the same as the previous one Means Turning The Wheel of the Dhamma.

This Buddha is from Korea in a meditation posture.

This Image is from Japan. In meditation posture.

This Image is unknown from which country . In a Giving a sermon posture.

This image is from Sri Lanka. In a Meditation posture.

This Image is from Thailand. In a giving a sermon posture.

The Buddha Image from Cambodia.

An Image from China in a meditation posture.

The Buddha Image from China in meditative posture.

This Image is from Tibet a gift from His Holiness the Dalai Lama

The replica of Pagodas
After paying homage and taking photos, we decided to went home and I cannot find my RM 9 pasar malam slippers.... so I asked Jean to help me to go to the stalls outside the temple and buy a new pair of slippers for me. As I am waiting at the temple ground, I was getting bored so I took a few photos with my hand phone.

The Buddha images in front of the Bodhi tree.

Many devotees offering joss sticks and lotus candles to the Buddha.

Many people walking here and there in the temple ground.

Suddenly after 5 minutes.... I manage to locate my missing slippers at last

YEAH!!!!! Happy Wesak Day!!!!!!!!!! Can go home liau!!!!!!

Happy Wesak!!!

Wasak Day is an auspicious day to remember the birth of a great human being that brings happiness to al living beings. The success of Prince Siddharta in attaining Buddhahood or enlightenment and the final passing or Maha-parinibanna) of The Buddha from the earth.

On this day you properly will see many people flock to the Buddhist temples all over Malaysia offering joss sticks, flowers and candle to the Buddha. Are Buddhists idol worshipper? Why need to offer all those things to the Image of the Buddha when the Buddha is already not here?

Buddhist are not Idol worshipers as thought and claim by many people. Just because a Buddhist bow down three times in front of a Buddha image that doesn't mean that he or she is worshipping the Buddha like a GOD. Buddha is not a GOD and He never claim that He is a God.

In ancient India and many parts of Asian countries, it is a custom for people pay respect to their parents, elders and teachers by bowing in front of them. It is a custom that was hand down till today and most Buddhist bow down their head in front of the Image of lord Buddha to show their high reverence to the great sage, a great teacher, and a Buddha.

My teacher Ajahn Dr. Tawee once told us...

'When you want to pay respect to the Buddha, please bear in mind this three things. The Buddha is full of WISDOM (Panna), PURITY (Visudhi) and COMPASSION (Karuna). If you contemplate and reflect on these, you are really paying homage to the Buddha. If you bow down without knowing these. You are only worshipping or paying homage to a lifeless stone, sand or wood...."

So you see the image of the Buddha is just a sign or reminder to all the Buddhist to practise and uphold the teachings of the Buddha. Buddhism is about peace and compassion.

Happy Wesak Day and May you and your family be well and happy.
